Our History

Southern Style Nuts™ traces its roots all the way back to 1922, when the Denison Peanut Company was founded.  Later, the company changed its name to The Peanut Supply Company and became well known for originating special flavors such as Hot & Spicy and Ragin’ Cagin’.

In 1978, George’s Gourmet Nuts division was added to the mix to focus on “non-peanut” products, including pecans, cashews, almonds, walnuts, macadamias and pistachios.  The original recipes from George’s are still used today, including our award-winning Hunter Mix®.

Later in 2003, the Southern Style Nuts brand was acquired by The Squirrel Brand Co.®, which also has a distinguished past in the roasted nut business since its founding in 1888.

Today, the company is headquartered in McKinney, TX where it continues to market sought after products under the Southern Style Nuts and Squirrel Brand labels.
